Meet the Valley’s Do-Gooders

Now that temperatures are cooling down, residents and long-term visitors may be wondering how to get more involved in the Coachella Valley—and the Rancho Mirage Chamber of Commerce has plenty of answers. The annual Show Your Heart Mixer takes place at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the Rancho Mirage Library and Observatory, at 71100 Highway 111, in Rancho Mirage. Representatives of dozens of area nonprofits will be on hand, giving guests a chance to learn about volunteering, serving on a board or committee, supporting a cause, or simply finding worthwhile events to put on the calendar. Cocktails for a Cause

Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest is celebrating 63 years in Riverside County with an evening of music, conversation and fundraising at 5:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 25. The Riverside County Cocktail Reception brings together supporters of the organization’s sexual and reproductive health-care services, with live entertainment from Black Market Jazz and remarks from PPPSW President and CEO Jenny Black and Palm Springs Mayor Naomi Soto. Local photographer/professor Ken Larmon organizes the benefit concert for the Desert Cancer Foundation as a way to give back to the organization that helped his late wife, Malinda Liu, who passed away from cancer in 2024. This year’s event will feature performances from The Divines (pictured), Space in Sound, James Dorris and the Love Electric, TV Screams, Fighting Fighters, Violet Hour, The Sieve and the Saddle, Miguel Arballo, Angel Lua, Dylan Aubrey and Phylicia Mason.
