Taking on Hollywood Stereotypes

Taryn Manning and Margaret Cho in Veronica.

Hollywood has never lacked stereotypes, and the makers of the film Veronica have a few thoughts about that. The award-winning 2026 dark-comedy short screens at 6 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 11, at the Palm Springs Cultural Center, at 2300 E. Baristo Road. Palm Springs residents Selene Luna and John T. Stapleton co-wrote and produced the film, which Brett Dos Santos directed. Luna stars as Veronica Santos, a little-person actress navigating Hollywood with her agent (Katey Sagal) as they search for an actual acting role rather than another demeaning sight gag. Margaret Cho and Taryn Manning also star. The free program, recognizing National Disability Employment Awareness Month and National Dwarfism Advocacy Month, also includes Christophe Zajac-Denekโ€™s comedy short BUTTINSKIS, followed by a panel with Luna, Manning, Stapleton and Zajac-Denek, moderated by Corey Roskin.
