Local rappers are competing for a chance to perform at Acrisure Arena! At 9 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 24, local podcast In the Mixx presents Rock the Mic, where 10 performers will showcase their talents to win a cash prize, and an opening spot at the upcoming How the West Was Won show featuring Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Too $hort, DJ Quik, Mack 10, MC Magic, Baby Bash and Lil Rob. Dance Dance Revolution

Social Dance Camp, a series of 16 workshops celebrating the joy of dance, will take place Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 26 and 27, at Beyond the Beat, 41990 Cook St., in Palm Desert. This is a perfect opportunity for beginning and intermediate-level dancers to meet others and learn various social dance styles, from swing to salsa and foxtrot to Argentine tango; you’re sure to find a dance that’s right for you! Spicy Cars, Spicy Chili

Join the Palm Springs Air Museum, at 745 N. Gene Autry Trail, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 26, for the 15th annual Halloween-Themed Chili & Classic Car Show. Entry to the museum, which includes the car show, is free for first responders, active-duty military members, and children under 12 who come with at least one paying adult. Admission prices range from $22 to $24 per person, with special family rates available. The chili-tasting starts at 11 a.m. and is available while supplies last! Epic Band Battle

For the past three Saturdays, The River at Rancho Mirage has been hosting preliminary rounds of its first Battle of the Bands. Check out the final round at 7 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 26, at 71800 Highway 111. The Divines, Jetta King and Whitewater will each perform a short set and compete for the grand prize of $1,000, radio play, a TV interview, studio time and much more. The event is free to attend; merchandise and raffle tickets will be for sale to raise funds for Music Will, a nonprofit charity that puts music gear and education back into schools. Pinoy Cooking

The chef-owner behind Lola Sally’s Kusina, Michelle Castillo, is teaching a class on cooking malunggay (moringa) at Isabel’s Naturals, 73960 Highway 111, in Palm Desert, from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 28. Workshop attendees will prepare and taste dishes made with this highly nutritious plant. The “food is medicine” community touts moringa’s benefits in boosting the immune system, improving digestion and providing a good source of vitamins A, C, calcium and potassium. Colorful Waves

Enjoy the nice weather—and some beautiful flags. At 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 2, head to Ruth Hardy Park, 700 Tamarisk Road, in Palm Springs, for Flagging in the Desert. A novice class teaching the basics of flag-spinning fun runs until 11:30 a.m., and after that, DJ Casey Alvia will bring the tunes for an afternoon filled with flags and expression. There will be a silent auction of donated flags, and funds will be going toward PS Test, which provides free STD testing and treatment to Riverside County residents. The event is free to attend. Spiffy Springs

Did you know Desert Hot Springs has award-winning water? At 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 2, at the Historic Rock House, 66050 Third St., the Desert Hot Springs Historical Society will host “Desert Hot Springs: A City Founded on Water.” The talk will explore the history and popularity of DHS, as the city is one of the only places in the world with both hot and cold water springs. The Crowned Queens of Pride from RuPaul’s Drag Race are coming to Hotel Zoso, 150 S. Indian Canyon Drive, in Palm Springs, at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 2. Join enchanting Nymphia Wind and her Season 16 sister Sapphira Cristal as they dazzle with their charisma and uniqueness. Other performers Jimbo the Drag Clown—the eccentric All Stars Season 8 champion—and Aquaria, the fierce fashion icon of Season 10, who continue to captivate the drag world with their bold performances, nerve and talent.
