I Believe the Children Are Our Future

Attend the sixth annual Palm Springs Young Playwrights Festival to support the next generation of artists. The event is dedicated to promoting and encouraging creative writing and is open to students from elementary to high school. This year’s winning playwrights range in age from 14 to 17, and the short plays, all of which will receive a staged reading, seem to have a focus on how youth are struggling with ideas of redemption and discovery. The playwrights will work with seasoned local actors as well as this year’s special mentor, actor and playwright Jack Kenny. The festival takes place at noon, Sunday, June 9, at the Palm Springs Cultural Center, 2300 E. Baristo Road. Tickets are free but must be reserved in advance at psypf.org. —Charles Drabkin
