‘Gregg Allman: The Music of My Soul,’ on June 17 at the Plaza Theatre

This soaring music documentary traces Gregg Allman’s journey from a childhood scarred by his father’s murder to the heights of Southern rock and late-life sobriety, exploring grief, addiction, love and the racially charged American South through his transcendent music.

Tender and unsparing, featuring electrifying performances and archival recordings, the film reveals how Gregg’s unforgettable blend of rock, country and blues mirrored the music and struggles of his soul.

Gregg Allman: The Music of My Soul will be screened on one night only, at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 17, at the Plaza Theatre, at 128 S. Palm Canyon Drive, in Palm Springs. Tickets are $30.40, at www.palmspringsplazatheatre.com/events/detail/gregg-allman. (Sponsored Content)

The ten-day “week” (We’re 11 Days a Week, so we get it) features prix-fixe menus and specials from restaurants across the Coachella Valley. Almost every budget and cuisine type is well represented, including Alice B (which recently earned a mention in the Michelin Guide!), Les Filles Café and More (my current sandwich obsession—make sure you try the French Pink peppercorn potato chips if they have them in stock!), The Pink Cabana (pictured in the email header) and Peaks Restaurant (pictured above). The week gives locals a good excuse to head out to dinner now that the season is winding down, and temperatures are heating up. Every reservation made through dineGPS.com sends $1 to FIND Food Bank. Carr—a Palm Springs resident for nearly three decades, a longtime fixture on the queer comedy circuit, and a good friend of mine—blends actual history with delightfully questionable storytelling skills sharpened over 40 years of standup, cruises, conventions and gigs around the world.
