
Honoring the Fallen

Reciting the names of the dead is an ancient and powerful tradition to honor and remember those who have passed—and one of the nation’s most power symbols of remembrance is coming to the Coachella Valley. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Moving Wall will be at Mission Springs Park, 14510 Palm Drive, in Desert Hot Springs, from Thursday, May 16, through Monday, May 20. This tribute to the men and women who served our country is a symbol of gratitude, remembrance and reverence. The memorial is free to attend and open to the public. The Desert at Night

The desert comes alive at night, as nocturnal creatures come out to eat, play and more. Join Friends of the Desert Mountains and the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument for Monument Night Adventures, starting at 8:30 p.m., Saturday, May 18, at 51500 Highway 74, in Palm Desert. Every 15 minutes from 8:30 to 9:15 p.m., small groups will be led on a short walk through the desert. This is a family-friendly event with a suggested $5 donation, and it’s sure to be fun and educational. Minors must be accompanied by an adult, and no dogs are allowed. Drag legend Jackie Beat is a national treasure. Her OUTtv comedy series Dr. Jackie: Unlicensed Psychotherapist is celebrating its second-season premiere at Dietlart Gallery & Performance Space, 4629 E. Sunny Dunes Road, in Palm Springs, from 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday, May 18. No question is too big or too small for the “doctor’s” unique brand of humor. After watching the episode, Dr. Jackie will be joined by everyone’s favorite gay uncle and my secret boyfriend (shhh, it is a secret from him), Mario Diaz, as he reveals the deep, dark things he won’t tell his therapist. A local music retail store is hosting a rock show in its back room. In for some eerie, satirical cinema? At 7 p.m., Saturday, May 25, a restored version of ’70s film The Day of the Locust will screen at the Palm Springs Cultural Center, 2300 E.
