Documentary Deconstructed

Experience what’s being touted as the first computer-generated documentary—a film that will be different with each showing! At 6 p.m., Thursday, May 1, check out ENO, a musical documentary focusing on producer extraordinaire Brian Eno. The screening will be hosted at the Blak Box Theater, located at the Hi-Desert Cultural Center, at 61231 Highway 62, in Joshua Tree. Using a computer-generated algorithm, the film is compiled and edited in a unique way every time it is screened, drawing from 30 hours of interviews with Eno, and 500 hours of footage from his archive. Temperatures are heating up, so it is time to find that perfect wine to quaff poolside. Whether you’re a wine expert or a wine lover in training, hyphen-, at 1007 N. Palm Canyon Drive, in Palm Springs, wants to help you Fill in the Blanc at 6 p.m., Thursday, May 1. Sauvignon blanc’s crisp acidity, citrusy flavors and refreshing light body make it easy to drink in hot weather. The class, led by Matthew King, from the Provincetown Food and Wine Festival, will be a unique experience that’s fun, informative and pretension-free. Friday, I’m in Love

Rock out to a fantastic tribute to goth-rock icons. At 8 p.m., Friday, May 2, The Cured, a San Diego-based band honoring The Cure, heads to The Show at Agua Caliente Rancho Mirage, at 32250 Bob Hope Drive. The Cured hones in on The Cure’s goth rock aesthetics, haunting vocals, twinkling guitar and synth perfection with great accuracy. Squint your eyes, and it’s like you’re actually seeing The Cure! Dance Like No One’s Watching

Shake your groove with the LGBTQ Community Center of the Desert at the Palm Springs Surf Club, at 1500 S. Gene Autry Trail, at their monthly Women’s Tea Dance. From 3 to 6 p.m., Sunday, May 4, watch the surfers, and have a cocktail while you dance the afternoon away at this new(ish) free event. DJ Ay-Lex Song is spinning, so you know the music will be top-notch. Although the event is primarily for women, all are welcome. Rock ’n’ Roll Sing-Along

Jazz With a Modern Touch

A local jazz favorite is set to perform some swingin’ tunes! At 7 p.m., Thursday, May 8, the Paul McDonald Sextet will provide a jazzy set with Ines Belayouni, at Agua Caliente Palm Springs’ Carousel Lounge, at 401 E. Amado Road. McDonald, an established musical director and jazz pianist, has credits all over the musical sphere, and this evening of musical mastery will present big-band classics in a 21st century format. Pop-Up Art Gallery

The Art All Ways Project has deep roots in the Los Angeles contemporary art scene, and the group is bringing a pop-up art exhibition, Hybrid Realities, to the Perez Art District, at 68845 Perez Road, Building H, Suites 6 and 7, in Cathedral City. The exhibit, which will be on display through June 10, opens with a reception from 4 to 8 p.m., Saturday, May 10. The exhibition will feature six artists, including Indio native Carlos Ramirez, whose work is heavily influenced by folk art and pop iconography. The exhibit includes work from a variety of media, including paintings, drawings, sculptures and mixed media, all of which reflect our world in flux.
