Juneteenth Gets Creative at the Library

“A Push for Accountability” by Kobina Wright.

The Juneteenth celebration at the Coachella Library, at 1500 Sixth St., in Coachella, goes beyond readings and reflection; this year, it’s an artful act of liberation. Artist and writer Kobina Wright brings ancestral storytelling to the desert for a special one-day art class that will explore the legacy of Juneteenth through creativity. Her art, influenced by African civilizations and lessons from the past, reflects on what was carried through the Middle Passage and what continues to bloom in today’s world. Her ink-on-paper pieces serve as celebratory expressions of Black freedom and resilience. No registration is needed for this program, from noon to 1 p.m., Thursday, June 19; show up ready to learn, reflect and create. For more information, click here. —Charles Drabkin
