Feeling Stabby?

The Palm Springs Cultural Center, at 2300 E. Baristo Road, is celebrating director John Waters this summer with three films by the Pope of Trash. The first is Serial Mom, the 1994 black-comedy slasher film starring Kathleen Turner with Sam Waterston, Ricki Lake, and Matthew Lillard, takes place at 7 p.m., Friday, June 14. It will be followed by Crybaby on July 12, and A Dirty Shame on Aug. 9. Whether you have never seen the Serial Mom, or you’ve seen it 100 times, you don’t want to miss it on the big screen. Cool Veggies, Cool Venue

The Palm Springs Certified Farmers’ Market is back—and indoors for the summer season, at the Palm Springs Pavilion, 401 S. Pavilion Way. From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, June 15, shop for delicious produce, meat, fish, eggs and pastries in air-conditioned splendor. Punks With Pride

Celebrate the release of a debut EP from hardcore punks who scream desert pride. At 5:30 p.m., Sunday, June 16, KILLFLOOR will be hosting their EP release show for 760 DEMONSTRATION at Flat Black Art Supplies, 72840 Highway 111, in Palm Desert. (Read more on the band here.) Stories of Displacement

A local theater company is performing staged readings focused on a dark moment in Palm Springs history. At 2 and 6:30 p.m., Saturday, June 22; and 2 p.m., Sunday, June 23, Green Room Theatre Company is presenting Displacement: Stories From Section 14. The production will feature stories based on the forced eviction by the city of Palm Springs of 200 Black, Latino and Filipino families from Agua Caliente tribal land in 1965, and the subsequent bulldozing and burning of houses. Acting in the play is former Section 14 resident and rock-drumming icon Alvin Taylor. The readings will take place at United Methodist Church, 1555 E. Alejo Road, in Palm Springs. Tickets are available on a pay-what-you-can basis, from $0 to $40. Free tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Party at a Recording Studio

One high desert recording studio is kicking off summer with some jams. At 5 p.m., Saturday, June 22, check out the Yucca Man Shakedown, hosted at Gatos Trail Recording Studio, 1733 Surrey Ave., in Yucca Valley. The recording studio will host performances by some of the bands who have recorded there, as well as some special guests. Performers include BEL, Caleb De Casper, The Freeks, Brad Byrd, John Meeks, DJ Abe Tostado and the Xperimental Loungers featuring Algis Kizys (Swans), and Gatos Trail owner Dan Joeright (The Rentals). Downtown Indio’s love for music continues with a night of DJs playing 2000s jams. At 6 p.m., Saturday, June 22, experience Encore After Hours at Little Street Music Hall, 82707 Miles Ave, in Indio. Music from the ’00s and some 90’s selections will be on rotation, and there also will be vintage clothing pop-ups. Palm Springs Wine Tasting and The Good House (12885 Eliseo Road, in Desert Hot Springs), are collaborating on a new way to chill out this summer. Their series, Soak and Sip, will combine wine, food and a relaxing soak in the mineral-rich waters of The Good House’s soaking pool. The kickoff at 6 p.m., Saturday, June 22, will feature six summertime wines and handmade pizzas, crudites and cheeses—all while luxuriating in the therapeutic waters.
