Three-Day Party in the Hi Desert

Twentynine Palms is celebrating Independence Day with three jam-packed days of performances by some of the desert’s best musicians. From Thursday, July 4, through Saturday, July 6, experience Freedom Daze 29 at Freedom Plaza, 6547 Freedom Way. Starting at noon, each day will feature more than a dozen bands performing at multiple stages. Food and craft vendors will be present as well. The event is free to attend, but to view any of the bands playing on the indoor stage (where there’s air conditioning!), you must purchase a ticket; they cost $13.24 for a single day or $31.60 for a weekend pass. Much has been written lately about overcrowding at our local pet shelters. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, July 6, join Animal Samaritans for a pet-adoption event at PetSmart, 34900 Monterey Ave., in Palm Desert. This no-kill shelter connects people with pets and provides veterinary and urgent care here in the valley. The organization recently received some extremely adorable cocker spaniel puppies that will be available for adoption, as will a variety of other animals in need of homes. Over two days, 10 great bands will perform, mixing rock and blues—and offering a perfect excuse to get out of the Coachella Valley heat!
