Known for blurring the lines between music, theater and visual art, Chessa has built a reputation for transforming unconventional sounds into fantastical performances. Strike a Pose; Help a Rescue
If your dog looks adorable anytime you pull out a camera, put that talent to work! The Dog Days of Summer event brings together Kaylarie Gallerie and K9 Parent Training for a pet-portrait fundraiser benefiting Desert Paws Sanctuary, starting at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 2. For $35 and an unopened 30-pound (or larger) bag of dog food, participants receive a 15-minute professional photo session and a printed 5-by-7 portrait, with all food donations going directly to the nonprofit rescue. Photo sessions will take place at K9 Parent Training, at 73760 Dinah Shore Drive, in Palm Desert. Additional artwork will be available for purchase. Desert Paws Sanctuary rescues hundreds of cats and dogs across the Coachella Valley, and provides medical assistance, spay and neuter services, and support for low-income pet owners. The Metropolitan Operaโs Live in HD Summer Encore is bringing Verdiโs story of love, loyalty and war to the Mary Pickford Is DโPlace Theater, at 36850 Pickfair St., at 1 and 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 5. In this 2025 performance, soprano Angel Blue stars as Aida, with Piotr Beczaลa as the captain of the Egyptian guard who loves her. Party Under the Stars
The desert sky puts on a great show once the sun goes down. Twice each month, members of the Astronomical Society of the Desert guide visitors through the stars, planets and other nighttime sights during a family-friendly Star Party. The next Star Party will take place from 8 to 10 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 8, at the Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument Visitor Center, at 51500 Highway 74, in Palm Desert. Telescopes and binoculars will offer a closer look, while the societyโs โsky toursโ will help explain exactly what everyone is looking at. The event is wheelchair-accessible, and minors must attend with a parent or guardian. The event is free, although a suggested donation of $10 per person supports Friends of the Desert Mountainsโ volunteer programs.
