
Morning Stretch

Author and yoga teacher Carrie Asby is traveling the country on a book tour—and inviting everyone to connect with her during her morning ritual. At 9:45 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 11, join her at Wellness Park, 904 N. Via Miraleste, in Palm Springs, for a free (donations are accepted) hour-long yoga class, suitable for all levels. Feel recharged, refreshed and at peace as you keep your New Year’s resolution to move more. Bring a yoga mat, a folded blanket or a large beach towel, and wear layers of comfy, stretchy attire. New Year, New Plays

Short-play festivals are a great way to see a diverse variety of work. Revolution Stage Company, at 611 S. Palm Canyon Drive, No. 15, in Palm Springs, is presenting 12 original productions at its second annual 10-Minute Play Festival. At 2 and 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 11; and 2 and 5:30 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 12, six plays will be performed, with each play being performed at two showings. The plays will cover a spectrum of subjects with both dramatic and humorous presentations. This is a fantastic opportunity to see the wealth of talent in our valley while checking out some innovative theater. An Afternoon of Chamber Music

Listen to outstanding soloists, small group ensembles and special guest cellist Andrew M. Cook of the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Desert Winds Freedom Band’s Special Music Concert, at 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 12. St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, at 47535 Highway 74, in Palm Desert, will host music ranging from Brahms to Gershwin. There is a suggested donation of $10 at the door. A Legend Looks Back

A handful of tickets remain to witness a rock star celebrate 60 years of performing. At 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 15, Burton Cummings, the voice behind the biggest years of The Guess Who, will visit the valley to perform at the McCallum Theatre, at 73000 Fred Waring Drive, in Palm Desert. Cummings and his band will revisit and revamp the hits you know from The Guess Who, and perform other solo songs, as the singer takes a victory lap in his 60th year of making and releasing music. Celebrate and Buy Local Art

The Desert Art Center, at 550 N. Palm Canyon Drive, in Palm Springs, is celebrating its 75th anniversary—and bringing back an old favorite event, Art Under the Eaves. More than 25 Desert Art Center members will sell their artwork outside the gallery from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 18. Work on sale will include a variety of media, including paintings, photography, pottery, jewelry and digital images! It’s going to be a busy day of art in Palm Springs. Soft Folk on the Side

The side project of an alternative folk star is heading to Indio for an intimate performance! At 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 18, Lost Leaders (Byron Isaacs of The Lumineers and guitarist Peter Cole) are set to bring their brand of soft folk vibes to Little Street Music Hall, at 82707 Miles Ave. The event will also feature performances from local artists the crushedvelvets and The Vizitorz. Time to Get Probed

One of the most unique high desert bands is invading the low desert for the first time. At 9 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 18, intergalactic rockers ALiEN PROBE will transport their space punk stylings to The Hood Bar and Pizza, at 74360 Highway 111, in Palm Desert. Opening up the show will be new indie-goth band Cinnamon Ghost Love; DJs Lun Noir, Dead Romeo and Obzen Vanitas will also perform. Alien cosplay is encouraged! Keepers of the Classics

Did you know that the musicians in Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons also perform on their own, sans Frankie? At 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 19, The Modern Gentlemen are set to perform an intimate show inside the Sierra Ballroom at Sun City Palm Desert, at 38180 Del Webb Blvd. The group of singers will pay tribute to Valli and cover hits from other greats ranging from The Beatles to Billy Joel.
