The GirlFriend Factor believes in the power of girlfriends, and that education is the key to empowerment. The organization provides educational grants for undergraduate degrees and occupational certificates to women seeking to further their educational goals. At 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 15, check out their Summer Mixer at Okura Robata Grill and Sushi Bar, 78480 Highway 111, in La Quinta. This is a great opportunity to make new friends or catch up with old ones. No RSVP is needed, but a $10 donation supports the organization’s mission to provide Coachella Valley women with renewable educational grants and emotional support. Tequila!

At 6 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 15, Nosotros Tequila and Mezcal is teaming up with the folks at Porta Via, 73100 El Paseo, in Palm Desert, to offer a five-course dinner and tasting for $95. Guests can meet the founders and learn more about tequila and mezcal. The menu includes gazpacho, ceviche, tacos, chicken en mole and choco-flan, each paired with a cocktail or neat pour, highlighting the tequila and mezcals. Every Friday from 5 to 10 p.m., the city of Indio hosts Food Truck Fridays. Now in its second year, this weekly tradition brings a rotating selection of tasty treats to downtown Indio (near the corner of Towne Street and Bliss Avenue). Bring lawn chairs or blankets and picnic with your family while you enjoy live music and family-friendly activities. The event is free, but, of course, you must pay for whatever you order. Saturday nights are made for Bingo, and Angelique VaGorgeous wants to invite you to the lounge at Hotel Zoso, 150 S. Indian Canyon Drive, in Palm Springs, for a good time. Co-hosted by the ever-fabulous Dolly Pardonme, this night on the town could end with you walking away with prizes! A full cocktail menu and food are available for purchase. The fun begins at 8 p.m. SHARP each Saturday. Although the event is free, reservations are highly recommended, and if you want to play bingo, it’s $2 per game with 10 games throughout the evening. Every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., at Tuscano’s & BrewQuinta, 78772 Highway 111, in La Quinta, The Carmens music duo performs, led by Tony Appolito. Tony Appolito has had a long music career, playing guitar for the Righteous Brothers, Tina and Ike Turner, and others. A local acting troupe is taking their love for Rocky Horror higher. At 5 p.m., Friday, Aug. 23, experience the Rocky Horror Stoner Picture Show Party, happening at Four Twenty Bank Dispensary and Lounge, 296 S. Palm Canyon Drive, in Palm Springs. Production group Signature Celluloid and the Coachella Valley Shadow Cast (also pictured above in the 11 Days a Week header) will celebrate Rocky Horror Picture Show all night long with a costume contest, entertainment and a shadow-cast screening of the film at 8 p.m. Tickets are $28.52, available on Eventbrite. There will also be a meet-and-greet with Taryn Manning (from Orange Is the New Black) available for $65.87 from 5:30 to 7 p.m., as she will be performing with the shadow cast as Riff Raff. Check out a mix of reggae and religious music. At 6 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 25, Christafari will perform a free concert at The Garden Fellowship, 38633 Jefferson St., in Indio. Since 1989, Christafari has been performing Christian reggae for audiences all over the world, and they will perform a special concert at The Garden Fellowship after being the house band for the weekend’s church services.
