Art and music are coming together in stunning Palm Desert fashion. That Gallery, at 73940 El Paseo, is opening a new exhibit, MIRAGE: The Art of Music, on Friday, April 5. Nearly 20 artists will have music-inspired pieces on display—combining the two forms of self-expression into one multimodal experience! An opening night event will be hosted from 6 to 9 p.m., Thursday, April 11, and the exhibit will be on display through Friday, May 3. This tradition has deep cultural roots, and whether you’d like to send away disaster, welcome happiness, guide the souls of the departed, remember loved ones, or simply enjoy the lit-up lake, as well as music and food trucks, this touring festival is sure to be fantastic. Taste of On the Mark, which takes place twice a year, is an excellent opportunity to try many of the unique products available at On the Mark—and it’s a great time, too. The next one is happening just outside the shop (at Museum Way and Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs) from 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday, April 6. At the autumn event, there was a caviar vendor and someone shucking oysters, and it was all DELICIOUS! Your $70 ticket gets you a commemorative wine glass and unlimited tastes of beer, wine, and sweet and savory treats! Xerophilous is an adjective referring to a plant or animal that’s adapted to a dry climate or habitat. The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens, at 47900 Portola Ave., in Palm Desert, has created a new event to celebrate the beauty of desert flora. Xerophilous: The Desert Botanical Festival will include garden walks hosted by their expert botanists and gardeners, a native plant sale, and information from conservationists working to protect the wild in Southern California, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, April 6 and 7. The event is free with paid park admission (adults $39.95, ages 3-17 $29.95, children 3 and under free; a two-day adult pass to Xerophilous is $10 off). Come witness the mesmerizing art of rotating flags, and show up at 10:30 a.m. to partake in a novice flagging class. A special silent auction of donated flags will take place, with all proceeds going to FIND Food Bank.
