Dining Out for Life Is Thursday, April 23
Dining Out for Life Greater Palm Springs returns on Thursday, April 23, and DAP Health is inviting our community to Dine Out. Give Back. and help strengthen access to care across the Coachella Valley.
The concept is simple: Local restaurants, bars and coffee shops donate a generous percentage of their sales to DAP Health—and our community shows up to dine out and do good.
The proceeds support whole-person HIV care at DAP Health, including primary care, mental health support, and specialized programs and services—because caring for someone means caring for the whole person.
Making a positive impact in our community has never been easier.
Greater Palm Springs may be one of the smallest participating areas in this national campaign, but thanks to the commitment of local businesses and diners, we’ve been a top-three fundraiser nationwide for the last three years—a level of community support few markets can match.
View the full list of participating locations and make your plan to dine out and do good at daphealth.org/dofl-participating-locations. (Sponsored Content)
Get Into the Groove

Punk-rock icon Henry Rollins famously said, “Yes, yes, y’all, it’s not hipster, elitist hype—vinyl sounds better. Much better. There is actual music in those grooves.” Don’t believe Rollins? Head to Vintage Vinyl Thursdays, happening at 8 p.m., every Thursday, inside the Amigo Room at the Ace Hotel Palm Springs, at 701 E. Palm Canyon Drive. Every week, a different DJ or performer will share deep cuts and crowd favorites, all on wax. As the streaming era persists, it’s important to cherish the physical! The event is free to attend. Master of the Keys

Catch classical piano wizardry at an amazing local venue. At 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 21, dazzling pianist Yuja Wang, alongside the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, will perform at the McCallum Theatre, at 73000 Fred Waring Drive, in Palm Desert. Wang’s 30-plus years of experience behind the keys (at only 39 years old) is evident from the first few notes, and her ability to perform melancholic melodies, somber serenades and joyful jams is truly something to behold! This performance with the Los Angeles Philharmonic is particularly special. She’s also known for pushing fashion boundaries in the classical world with her sparkly, vibrant dresses. Tickets start at $73. For tickets and more information, visit www.mccallumtheatre.org. —Matt King
Speaking for the Trees

In Rancho Mirage, Earth Day means tree planting; snow cones to keep you cool while you explore; and a screening of The Lorax. The city’s Sustainability Department hosts its Earth Day celebration on Wednesday, April 22, at the Rancho Mirage Library and Observatory, at 71100 Highway 111. The day starts outside with a tree-planting ceremony at 11 a.m., then shifts indoors for a stretch of hands-on activities from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., including games, an animal presentation, and even a chance to make your own laundry soap! There will also be tree giveaways while supplies last. The afternoon winds down with a 4 p.m. screening of The Lorax, a reminder of how important it is to speak for the trees. An Unlikely Phone Call

Back in 2014, I saw the original production of Ernest Shackleton Loves Me at the Balagan Theatre in Seattle, so I am excited to see how this musical has changed and matured over the years, when it opens at Coachella Valley Repertory with a preview on Wednesday, April 22, and runs through Sunday, May 10, at 68510 E. Palm Canyon Drive, in Cathedral City. The story follows Kat, a single mom and video game composer, who ends up in a conversation across time with Sir Ernest Shackleton, who is stuck in Antarctica in the early 1900s. Running Wednesdays through Sundays with tickets ranging from $70 to $105, it is an odd little musical, and that is part of the appeal. For more information, visit www.cvrep.org. —Charles Drabkin
Smoke, Sunshine and Pride

The Big Gay BBQ returns from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, April 25; and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Sunday, April 26, in the Arenas District of downtown Palm Springs. This fundraiser for Greater Palm Springs Pride has moved from the searing temperatures of June to the more reasonable late April, so we can enjoy the grilled meats, the music and the company without constantly looking for shade. Admission to the two-day block party is free, and there is a full lineup of barbecue vendors selling everything from brisket and ribs to sides and sweets, along with outdoor beverage lounges, live bands and DJs. A local entertainer will perform his first solo cabaret show in seven years! At 7 p.m., Sunday, April 26, Desert Ensemble Theatre’s artistic director, Jerome Elliott, will perform an emotion-evoking evening of music at the Palm Springs Cultural Center, at 2300 E. Baristo Road. DET is hosting its final four performances this weekend, bringing a 15-season run of local theater productions to an end.
