Jimmy Boegle is the founding editor and publisher of the Coachella Valley Independent. A native of Reno, Nevada, the Dodgers fan went to Stanford University intending to become a sportswriter—but fell in love with news and investigative reporting while working for The Stanford Daily. After graduation, Jimmy worked for The Associated Press, the Daily Sparks Tribune and Las Vegas CityLife before becoming the editor of the Tucson Weekly in 2003. In his decade as the editor, the Tucson Weekly and its writers won hundreds of journalism awards, and the Weekly was named the 2011 non-daily Newspaper of the Year by the Arizona Newspapers Association. Since founding the Independent in late 2012, the newspaper has won multiple Association of Alternative Newsmedia (AAN) awards. After serving on the AAN Board of Directors as the diversity chair, he is now in his second stint on the board, serving as the membership chair. A former Desert Business Association board president, Jimmy is involved with or a supporter of the Local Independent Online News Publishers (LION), the Desert AIDS Project, and the LGBTQ Community Center of the Desert. He lives in Palm Springs with his husband, Garrett Dangerfield.
