Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne in Platonic.

Rose Byrne and Seth Rogen reunite for Platonic, the latest must-see comedy series airing on the extremely reliable Apple TV+ streaming service.

The pair played a hilarious husband and wife in Neighbors and its sequel, both directed by Nicholas Stoller. Happily, Stoller is also the director of this show (at least the first three episodes), and the same comedic chemistry the pair exhibited continues to shine through.

This time, they aren’t playing husband and wife; they are platonic friends Sylvia and Will, who reunite when Will gets divorced. The two had stopped communicating when he married a woman Sylvia—a former attorney who’s now a stay-at-home parent—didn’t like, but social media brings them back together after Sylvia sees the divorce mentioned in a post.

Rogen and Byrne’s depiction of a genuine but sometimes contentious friendship rings true. I wouldn’t be surprised if Rogen and Byrne have a similar relationship off-screen. (I also wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t speak in between projects; they are talented professionals capable of making shit up, after all.)

Three episodes of the 10-episode season are out, and I am more than hooked. I can’t wait to see the continuing adventures of these two.

I almost feel like they could become married by series end, and Neighbors would be the sequel. That’s not going to happen, but that’s the sort of thing that goes through my head when I’m writing these things.

Platonic is now streaming on Apple TV+, with new episodes released Wednesdays through July 12.
