A local singer/songwriter is offering the eastern Coachella Valley two performances at local eateries this weekend. Derek Jordan Gregg is set to perform his one-man looper show at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 19, at The Local on 50th, at 49990 Jefferson St., in Indio; and at 8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 20 at Giuseppe’s Pizzeria, at 9002 Shadow Ridge Road, in Palm Desert. Gregg utilizes his guitar skills to create entire songs out of one instrument and one loop pedal; he’ll dazzle you with his re-workings of cover songs, as well as his beautiful, bold original tunes. Bird Songs, Stories and Desert Night Walks

Experience the ancestral home of the Agua Caliente people in a whole new way. The Agua Caliente Cultural Museum, at 140 N. Indian Canyon Drive, in Palm Springs, invites you to Nights on the Oasis Trail, from 6 to 9 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 25; it’s a a special after-hours program featuring traditional Bird Singers and Dancers alongside guided interpretive walks led by tribal rangers. Visitors can also explore the museum’s galleries, shop at the Museum Store, and enjoy light bites as part of the event. Comedy, Cocktails and GL’Amour

Palm Springs nightlife is about to get a glittering new event. Beginning Thursday, Sept. 25, Billy L’Amour brings her Cabaret L’Amour to the Velvet Rope Hotel, at 120 W. Veredasur, in Palm Springs, transforming Thursday nights into a weekly salon of sparkle and song. Inside the Hollywood Regency-style speakeasy, guests will be treated to an intimate, over-the-top experience. Ms. L’Amour mixes bawdy big band jazz, smoky torch songs, disco grooves, Broadway showstoppers, cheeky parodies and raw storytelling—all delivered with a wink, camp and polish. Attendees are encouraged to arrive dressed in their Palm Springs best, channeling movie stars, icons or creatures of the night. To top it off, complimentary stays at The Velvet Rope will be raffled. Wagging Tales

Shelters across the valley (and beyond) are overcrowded, and the need for pet adoptions is more urgent than ever. On Saturday, Sept. 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Bones-N-Scones will host an Autumn Adoption Event at its Palm Springs location, at 633 S. Palm Canyon Drive, Suite 27. Dogs from Loving All Animals will be onsite and ready to meet their future families. Every pet adopted during the event will be enrolled in Bones-n-Scones’ Adopter Assistance Program, which ensures access to quality food for the entire first year at a cost usually less than $1 per pound, per month. Bones-n-Scones has made it a mission to support local rescue groups with adoption events like these. This event is free to attend, and with food assistance included for adopters, it’s the perfect time to welcome a new companion into your home. Thrasher Bash

Skating fun and heavy rock are combining in the high desert. At 4:45 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 27, the Thrasher Death Match returns yet again to Pappy and Harriet’s, at 53688 Pioneertown Road, in Pioneertown. The famous skating magazine Thrasher and Converse CONS will place a skate ramp next to the Pappy’s outdoor stage and invite dozens of notable skaters to show off their skills while some of the best acts in punk, metal and rock play the indoor and outdoor stages. Catch performances from Dinosaur Jr., Superheaven, HiTech, Haywire (pictured), Febuary, No Warning, Lathe of Heaven and The Dark; DJ sets from Purest Form, The Nuge and Lee Spielman; and skate sessions from some badass athletes! A ramp is even open for skateboarding from 5 to 8:30 p.m. The show is all ages, but access to the indoor stage is 21+. Rock Generations Unite

At 6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 27, the desert’s musical legacy takes center stage at the Coachella Valley Collective, at 1031 Sixth St., No. 8, in Coachella, with Desert Rock Night. This celebration of desert-born grooves coincides with the Kyuss World invasion—more on that in the next item—bringing a lineup that connects the past, present and future of local music. The bill includes Warm Uncle, led by Dino Lalli, son of desert-rock pioneer Mario Lalli, as well as Whitewater (pictured), a new-generation powerhouse which has earned the approval of Kyuss frontman John Garcia. They’ll be joined by touring acts Fuzz Evil out of Arizona and Ohio’s Valley of the Sun, bands deeply inspired by the Coachella Valley’s signature sound that shaped stoner rock worldwide. I Saw the Sign

The Coachella Valley is welcoming in fans of the desert rock music genre from all around the world. At 1 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 28, the online group of desert rock fans called Kyuss World will make their annual journey to the “Welcome to Sky Valley” sign, at 76861 Dillon Road, in Desert Hot Springs, for a group photo. Why? It’s the sign that graced Kyuss’ 1994 album, Welcome to Sky Valley! Every year, there is an after-party following the photo, but the address is only shared with photoshoot attendees. Last year, Kyuss vocalist John Garcia made a surprise appearance at the afterparty, and Kyuss/Queens of the Stone Age guitarist Josh Homme said he’s considered attending the event in a recent interview—so you never know who may show up!
