
Netflix-Worthy Comedy in Real Life

The Hi-Desert Comedy series is back with the hilarious Dulcé Sloan, best known as a correspondent for The Daily Show. She’ll take the stage at Kitchen in the Desert, 6427 Mesquite Ave., in Twentynine Palms, on Thursday, March 21. Joining Sloan will be Danielle Perez and Jenny Zigrino, both well-known comedians in their own right. Doors open at 7 p.m. for dinner, and the show begins at 7:30 p.m. General-admission tickets start at $10 in advance, or you can reserve tables for up to eight people. Stories of Resilience

Desert Art Woman Gallery, at 68895 Perez Road, in Cathedral City, is presenting a new show with the goals of challenging societal perceptions, provoking dialogue and shedding light on the often-overlooked stories of resilience within the homeless community. Artists Emmanuel Doublin and Adriana Lopez-Ospina juxtapose portraits of individuals experiencing homelessness with elements of soft luxury and gold leaf in the exhibit Reality Check. The opening reception is from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, March 22, with the exhibit on display from noon to 4 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday through March 29. Mariachi Time

Celebrate classic Mexican music in the heart of Coachella at the annual Coachella Mariachi Festival, taking place from 5 to 9 p.m., Saturday, March 23, at Veterans Park, 1500 Fourth St. Mariachi groups will perform, of course, while folklorico dancing and games for kids will keep the fun going all night. Off to ‘American Idol’

Wish local musician Abi Carter well as she heads off to compete on American Idol—with a free community concert! At 6 p.m., Saturday, March 23, at the corner of Towne Street and Bliss Avenue, the city of Indio will host Carter as she performs her debut single; attendees can also enjoy food trucks and get exclusive merchandise. The event is free! A VIP event will be held shortly before the concert at Little Street Music Hall, where Carter will perform an intimate set and meet and greet attendees. Tickets are $100, and can be purchased on Eventbrite. A portion of the funds from ticket sales will raise funds to help Carter on her Idol journey. An Inclusive Band

Former professional musicians, recreational musicians and students, all ranging in age from 17 to 91, all perform in the Desert Winds Freedom Band. While the band focuses on the LGBTQ+ community in Palm Springs, anyone—gay, straight, permanent valley residents and seasonal visitors—are all welcome.
