A touring hip hop festival, with an element of competition, is heading to the desert. At 8 p.m., Friday, June 7, catch The Happiness of Pursuit at Bart Lounge, 67555 Palm Canyon Drive, in Cathedral City. Performers include winners from the last local event and the online competition; they include 60 East, Noa James, The Bermuda and 2Toxic. Meanwhile a new competition will take place between Larry Bentley, Amadeus, Razor J, Izayus and MCKG aka Gabriel GreenSkull. The winner will represent the county on the next tour. Start your summer with an art explosion from more than 20 local artists! At 5 p.m., Saturday, June 8, check out Humble Beginnings, the summer art exhibition hosted at Flat Black Art Supplies, 72840 Highway 111, in Palm Desert. Some 26 local artists will have their works on display at one of the desert’s best homes for creative expression. Your favorite animated princesses and sweet songs are turning risqué. At 9 p.m., Saturday, June 8, local drag sensation Vanity Halston is hosting Twisted Disney Drag at One Eleven Bar, 67555 E. Palm Canyon Drive, in Cathedral City. Other performers include Turner Gae, Danity Zann, Coco D. Baucherry and Veronica Halston. Prepare to be entertained, and potentially have your childhood ruined at this 21-and-over show. This performance will blend contemporary taiko (Japanese drumming), music, storytelling and choreography. The Kimpton Rowan’s 4 Saints restaurant, at 100 W. Tahquitz Canyon Way, in Palm Springs, is hosting a series of monthly Summer Wine Dinners. The first, at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 12, will feature Huneeus Vintners. The dinners feature a five-course menu that includes scallop crudo, charred duck breast and a chocolate torte paired with wines from three of Huneeus’s California-based wineries: Flowers, Quintessa and Faust. June 19, or Juneteenth, marks the day in 1865 when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to ensure that all enslaved people were freed.
