A Saucy Celebration

Many cities host Pride festivals in June, since it’s Pride Month. But here in the Coachella Valley … well, it tends to be hot in June, and as a result, Greater Palm Springs Pride takes place in November, when it’s (usually) not so hot. But June is still Pride Month—and a couple of years ago, the powers that be decided there should be a local event to celebrate the occasion, triple-digit temps be damned. Thus, the Big Gay BBQ was born. The third year of the event will take place on Arenas Road in downtown Palm Springs from 3 to 10 p.m., Saturday, June 14; and 3 to 7 p.m., Sunday, June 15. All are welcome to enjoy live DJ music, performances by the Radio Ready band, and food for purchase from barbecue, gelato and beverage vendors—and admission is free! Happy Times in Downtown Indio

Enjoy a summer evening with feel-good music. At 6 p.m., Saturday, June 14, locally loved indie rock outfit Brosquitos are set to take Center Stage, at 82881 Miles Ave., in Indio, as part of the city’s Second Saturdays series. Fresh off of the release of their sophomore album Sorry, It’s Been Awhile, the anthemic-pop hitmakers who dabble in electronic, alternative and more will play a long, memorable set in beautiful downtown Indio. The event is free for all ages! For more information, visit instagram.com/cityofindio. —Matt King
The Broadcast That Terrified America—Now With Jokes

Aliens are landing in Indio … and it’s hilarious. At 2 p.m., Sunday, June 15, Desert TheatreWorks invites you to the Indio Performing Arts Center, at 45175 Fargo St., in Indio, to experience the mayhem of The War of the Worlds: The Panic Broadcast, a radio show-style performance with vintage flair, onstage sound effects, and fun! The show is based on the legendary 1938 Orson Welles broadcast that (accidentally) convinced some that the nation was under attack; think golden age radio meets screwball comedy, with a dash of sci-fi hysteria. This performance is a benefit for Desert TheatreWorks. Learn more and get tickets, which are $40, here. —Charles Drabkin
