Let the Drag Race Begin!

Another year means another new season of RuPaul’s Drag Race! At 7:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 3, local drag star Norma Lee High will host a watch party for the Season 17 premiere at One Eleven Bar, 67555 E. Palm Canyon Drive, in Cathedral City. You may spot a few local celebrities in this season of the show! Admission is free. Stick around for Vanity’s Dollhaus at 9 p.m., a premier Southern California drag show hosted by Vanity Halston. Say farewell to a group of desert-music talents before an indefinite hiatus. At 9 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 4, riff-filled rockers Town Troubles will perform their last desert show for a long while at The Hood Bar and Pizza, 74360 Highway 111, in Palm Desert. The band, active in the valley since 2010, says they are beginning a new chapter soon after this show, meaning this performance is not one to miss. Beverly Bomber and Fishing for Skronk will open. The Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce has brought back its popular Rock the Park series on the first Wednesday of the month, and January’s edition features Led Zepagain, which bills itself as the longest-standing Led Zeppelin tribute band in the world. The show takes place at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 8, at the Downtown Palm Springs Park, on Museum Way and Belardo Road, near the Marylyn Monroe statue. Even Jimmy Page says of them, It’s amazing how much you sound like us.” Bring a chair or blanket—and I will warn you that the park fills up for these first-Wednesday shows, so you may want to arrive early for the free, all-ages show. Charo is known for her high-energy live concerts at the Hollywood Bowl and around the world, while Mule Deer blends comedy and music in a unique and hilarious way. Get strange with an alternative, sci-fi drag show!
