Christine Tringali Nunes and David Brooks in I Do! I Do!

Don’t Miss “I Do! I Do!” at Palm Canyon Theatre

Palm Canyon Theatre presents I Do! I Do!, a charming and intimate musical that traces 50 years of marriage through the lives of one couple. Set entirely in a bedroom, the show captures the humor, heartache and enduring bond that define a life shared.

Starring Christine Tringali Nunes as Agnes and David Brooks as Michael, I Do! I Do! follows the couple from newlyweds to old age, marking major milestones through song and storytelling. The production is directed by Brooks, with musical direction by Linda Mack.

First produced on Broadway in 1966, I Do! I Do! earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Musical and has remained a favorite for its relatable and timeless perspective on love and commitment. The score, by Harvey Schmidt with book and lyrics by Tom Jones, blends warmth and wit with moments of genuine poignancy.

Birth of a Modern Hatred

Steven Zipperstein. Credit: Tony Rinaldo

Antisemitic incidents in the United States have reached record levels in recent years, with the Anti-Defamation League documenting more than 9,300 cases in 2024 alone, the highest total since tracking began. The phrase, “If we do not study history, we are doomed to repeat it,” has never been more appropiate. At 4 p.m., Friday, Jan. 23, at UC Riverside Palm Desert, at 75080 Frank Sinatra Drive, hosts historian Steven J. Zipperstein for a discussion of his book Pogrom: Kishinev and the Tilt of History. Zipperstein will be joined in conversation by Michael Alexander, UCR’s Maimonides Chair of Jewish Studies. The talk centers on the 1903 anti-Jewish riot in Kishinev, Moldova, an event that killed dozens, devastated a community, and reshaped global conversations about antisemitism. Drawing on newly uncovered sources from across Europe and Israel, Zipperstein brings clarity to how one local atrocity helped define a violent century—and how its reverberations still matter. The cast of Camp Morning Wood in rehearsal.

Prism Theater is Palm Springs’ newest live performing arts company—and it has had a bumpy road to opening its doors. At long last, though, the company is opening Camp Morning Wood, which is scheduled to open at 8 p.m., Friday, Jan. 23, at a temporary location, 4704 E. Sunny Dunes Road. The show as of now is scheduled to run on weekends through March 22. Fresh off an Off-Broadway run, this West Coast premiere drops a buttoned-up city couple into a free-spirited gay nudist camp after a roadside breakdown turns into something much more revealing. What follows is a cheeky, body-positive musical full of big personalities and toe-tapping songs, and choreography that relies heavily on timing, confidence, and strategically placed props. Camp Morning Wood is for adults only, age 18 and up. Tickets are $54.95. For tickets, visit prismtheater.org. Dufreign.

A local musician and philanthropist is performing a rare local show with his heavy rock band. At 8 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 24, Josh Heinz, who runs the annual Concert for Autism, will perform with his band Dufreign at Coachella Valley Brewing Co., at 30640 Gunther St., in Thousand Palms. Since the members of the band are spread out across the U.S., Dufriegn only performs once in a while—but when they do, they bring the rock thunder! They are one of the loudest bands I’ve ever seen live, and their sound features traces of the iconic desert rock sound. Local act Joe Kidd and the Gash will open the show. The event is free!
