The Homekind team is bringing that vision to Palm Desert with its first two proposed homes, Homekind on Fairway and Homekind on Portola.
A Home First
The Homekind model is intentionally small. Rather than a large senior living campus with dozens or hundreds of residents, each Palm Desert home is designed for approximately 15 seniors in a residential setting.
With fewer residents, caregivers have the opportunity to know each person individually. Residents can bring treasured belongings, share meals around a table, enjoy outdoor spaces and maintain the routines and choices that make them who they are.
The homes themselves are designed to fit into their Palm Desert neighborhoods, with residential architecture, attractive landscaping and quiet outdoor spaces.
Homekind on Portola, for example, is designed as a single-story residential-style home with 15 private suites, shared family and dining spaces, shaded seating, walking paths and gardens.
The goal is simple: professional care in a place that feels like home.
Care That Meets People Where They Are
Homekind is designed for seniors who need help with daily life but don’t require a skilled nursing facility. The model provides around-the-clock care and assistance with everyday needs, along with meals, housekeeping, activities and coordination with outside healthcare providers.
But good care is about more than services. Someone may need help getting dressed but still wants to choose their own clothes. Another resident may need medication assistance but still enjoys tending a garden or having coffee outside every morning.
Growing older shouldn’t mean losing the small choices and familiar routines that make life your own.
Part of the Neighborhood
Palm Desert is a community where many people choose to spend their retirement years, and as our population ages, local families need more choices for the people they love.
