Prepare to Again Taste Palm Springs
Every September, the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce’s Business Expo and Taste of Palm Springs returns to the Indian Canyons Golf Resort, at 1100 E. Murray Canyon Drive. This year’s edition takes place from 5 to 9 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 16.
The $40 entrance fee includes tastings from 45-plus valley restaurants, plus wine, beer and spirits tastings, along with entertainment from a Rod Stewart tribute band. Or upgrade to the VIP experience ($90) for early access, a private VIP lounge with premium wine tastings, and a commemorative wine glass.

An Indio Institution Could Use Your Help
Burger Box, at 81201 Indio Blvd., in Indio, is a 70-year-old roadside burger joint that closed briefly before being purchased and re-opened by a staff member in 2025—and the restaurant could your help.
On Aug. 2, the building suffered major damage when a truck crashed into it. Fortunately, no one was injured, and the owner is working with the insurance company to reopen as quickly as possible.

Yozu Asian Bistro was set to open on Aug. 26—in the former home of Shorebird at The Shops on El Paseo, at 73061 El Paseo, Suite 172, in Palm Desert—with a promise to bring the “Spirit of Tokyo’s Izakaya Culture” to the desert. Cotino, the “Storyliving by Disney Community” in Rancho Mirage, has announced four new restaurants slated to open next year: Asada Cantina + Kitchen, a San Clemente-based Mexican restaurant; SottoSopra, an Italian restaurant from the team behind SottoVoce Cafe in Palm Desert and Palm Springs; Big Juice, a Coachella Valley-based chain known for cold-pressed juices, protein smoothies and specialty coffee; and La Dolce Piccola Gelateria, a family-owned Palm Desert gelato and coffee shop. La Cocina de Mama Margarita, the popular Palm Desert Mexican restaurant, has opened a second location at 67778 E. Following up on a cryptic announcement by F10 Hospitality (the folks behind Birba and Mr. Lyons, among other restaurants) about Bird: They are now hoping for a late September opening. The space will be a café during the day and a wine bar in the evenings, located next to Mr. Lyons at 211 E. Palm Canyon Drive, Suite C, in Palm Springs. Bird will feature Onyx Coffee, a boutique coffee roaster out of Arkansas. Watch www.birdf10.com for updates.
After 17 years as “Where Palm Springs Eats,” Trio, in downtown Palm Springs, has closed (although the airport location continues to operate). Good luck to everyone involved, particularly the long-term employees and wait staff who have taken such good care of me over the years.
