At 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, the sun was bright, and the weather was already hot as Palm Desert’s “No Kings” demonstration began, one of at least five scheduled in the Coachella Valley.

Thousands of protesters were posted along Highway 111 and Monterey Avenue, stretching westward in front of the chain stores that populate the area. The crowd’s energy remained high as passengers in passing vehicles waved hands, signs and flags out windows or sun roofs while blaring their horns in appreciation and solidarity.

“No Kings” organizers estimated some 8 million protesters came out across the country.

Here are some photos from Palm Desert protest.

  1. Local news is extremely important given the consolidation of network media, their news channels and the on sought of misinformation . Getting local will keep us safer, smarter and closer to our community.

  2. I really enjoy the Coachella Valley independent and appreciate both the quality of its coverage and it’s coverage of the music and entertainment scene across the CV. I also like to pick up a newspaper version of it as there’s nothing like reading a publication the old-fashioned way in this digital world.
I do make monetary contributions to it from time to time.

  3. I attended this and the other No Kings protests in Palm Desert. Great coverage. I would like to add a shout out to local organizer Christine M. who shows up every Sunday at the same location to lead the weekly local demonstrations that allow citizens to exercise their First Amendment rights.
