Dr. Ben Carson.

It is time of great excitement, as Mama’s House Ministries enters its 10th year, and celebrates its successful mission of offering a safe, supportive, loving and nurturing residential environment for women in crisis, whether pregnant or with an infant, who have no place to go and no means of support.

Mama’s House is the only residential home within the Coachella Valley providing shelter to these vulnerable women and their children, offering an extensive one-of-a-kind program of HOPE, thus impacting families, communities, and generations.

In preparation for its highly-acclaimed HEARTbeat Of Love luncheon, scheduled to take place on Saturday, Feb. 11, at the Renaissance Indian Wells Resort and Spa, Mama’s House has announced Dr. Benjamin S. Carson will be the keynote speaker for this year’s luncheon.

“We have wanted to have Dr. Ben Carson with us for a number of years, though the timing was never right, until now,” said Jan Lupia, founder and executive director of Mama’s House and the HEARTbeat Luncheon co-chair. “We are honored to have this amazing, talented, and brilliant man as our speaker for the February luncheon. The reaction from those who eagerly anticipate this luncheon is exciting, and we are trusting God for another successful event. At our luncheon, we will share an update on our expansion property, The Anne Silverstein Campus For Mama’s House, which is coming to life slowly in God’s perfect timing!”

Dr. Benjamin S. Carson, Sr., M.D., is founder and chairman of the American Cornerstone Institute whose mission is to promote the four founding principles of our country: faith, liberty, community, and to pursue common sense solutions. Dr. Carson most recently served as the 17th secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. From 33 years of age, Carson served as director of pediatric neurosurgery at the John Hopkins Children’s Center, becoming the youngest major division director in the hospital’s history, and successfully performed the first separation of conjoined craniopagus twins in 1987. Dr. Carson is the recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor; the Spingarn Medal, the highest honor bestowed by the NAACP; and more than 70 honorary doctorate degrees. He and his wife co-founded the Carson Scholars Fund, recognizing young people for exceptional academic and humanitarian accomplishments. The Fund, celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, is currently operating in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The Carson Scholars Fund has awarded a total of more than 10,000 scholars and more than $8 million in scholarships. By 2023, the Carson Scholars will have installed more than 250 Ben Carson reading rooms around the country. Carson was born in Detroit to a single mother with a third grade education, who worked multiple jobs to support her family. Dr. Carson was raised to love and appreciate reading and education. He graduated from Yale University and earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School.

Dr. Ben Carson is currently the author of The New York Times best-seller Created Equal: The Painful Past, Confusing Present, and Hopeful Future of Race in America.

“We are so honored that Dr. Ben Carson excepted our invitation to speak at our luncheon,” said Patricia McDonnell, honorary co-founder and chairman of the board of Mama’s House and Co-chair of the HEARTbeat Of Love Luncheon. “I am sure we will all be inspired by his accomplishments, love of country, and his faith.”

This year’s HEARTbeat Of Love Luncheon, benefitting Mama’s House, will be co-chaired by Jan Lupia and Patricia McDonnell. The event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, Feb. 11, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Renaissance Indian Wells Resort and Spa, located at 44400 Indian Wells Lane, in Indian Wells.

About Mama’s House

In March 2012, Mama’s House Ministries was founded, and in July 2013, Mama’s House opened its doors to its first resident Mom. Mama’s House offers a safe, supportive, loving, and nurturing residential environment for women in crisis, whether pregnant or with an infant, who have no place to go and no means of support. Wonderful support has been offered over the years in this home, with more than 300 residents and babies served. The educational and counseling extension of Mama’s House, Hope Center, offers additional services to the residents, their baby’s fathers and often their families while also providing many of these same services to the community as a whole. These services include, but are not limited to parenting, job and life skills, domestic violence and anger management classes, support groups for those wounded by abuse, addiction, abortion and more. Hope Center collaborates with more than 30 organizations including the Coachella Valley Adult School to offer high school diploma and GED programs, to further serve the residents of Mama’s House and the community.

Mama’s House is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, Tax ID# 45-4384613.
