Dance, dance, dance!

I wanted to make this month’s mix something fun and inviting. Over time, anybody can collect a plethora of tracks—and as a DJ, that’s amplified. I’ve recently been listening to a lot of tracks that I haven’t played in a while, and it’s nice to look back on tracks that inspired me. After collecting a few “classic” remixes, I decided to make this mix for you. It’s perfect for listening by the pool or by the fire. I hope you enjoy this holiday FRESH mix!

By the way, my latest release, Pressure, is available now for free download via my SoundCloud page. Enjoy this month’s FRESH mix below!

This month, we’re celebrating one year of “FRESH Sessions,” and I have to thank all of you who have tuned in since the start. When I began writing this column, I wanted to share my love of electronic music with the valley. As the months have gone on, I have evolved as a DJ—and, of course, my sound has evolved as well.

I love the feeling dance music and house music give me. You can dance, be free, shake about—and when you look around, everyone in the room is doing the same thing. There are no pretentious attitudes and no negative judgments—just “good vibes,” as I like to say.

This column has evolved from simple words with a mix to live shows. This month, we will be celebrating at the Hacienda Cantina and Beach Club on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 10 p.m. This will be a free event and will feature DJ sets from DJ Day, COLOUR VISION and myself.

Thank you all. I look forward to sharing more with you in the future. Here’s to another year!

This month, I have decided to make a mix featuring some of my favorite tracks at the moment.

While keeping my usual deep-house sound, I’ve developed a playlist that represents my favorite “vibes.” I love getting lost in a song—and the great thing about being a DJ is you get to do that over and over again, while sharing that feeling with those around you.

Come experience this feeling with me! The Independent is sponsoring—along with my new label, Fresh Session Records—FRESH Sessions Live at 9 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 20, at The Hood Bar and Pizza, 74360 Highway 111, in Palm Desert. This show will feature CoffeeBlvckk, Synthetix and myself! There’s no cover; 21 and older only, please. We’re hoping this is just the first in a series of events like this, so come out, and enjoy the night with us!

It’s time for August’s FRESH Sessions, the 11th installment in this series!

I’d like to again thank JF//Discord for his guest FRESH Sessions mix last month. While I love offering people some of the best known and unknown current dance music, I also love sharing the work of other DJs.

In the minds of some, there’s a stigma associated with modern DJing. Many see us as mere “party people” who like to play as loud and as fast as possible. This is not true. Yes, we all like to “get down”—but not in the same way.

For example, I appreciate some theatrics in a DJ set. Creating different sounds with someone else’s work is exciting. This month, I try to do just that, with the final installment in my “Poolside Sounds” mix series. I’ve captured a deeper, sexier sound with this mix. I hope you all enjoy.

Meanwhile, catch me at the follow shows this month:

  • Friday, Aug. 1: Toucans “Mischief/Jungle Jam" (Palm Springs Animal Shelter Benefit)
  • Friday, Aug. 15: Toucans “Mischief”

FRESH Sessions this month features a guest mix from JFDiscord, aka Jeremy Ferguson.

JFDiscord offers up a deeper, slightly darker side of dance, while managing to create a unique yet familiar sound. Jeremy works with an eclectic mix of music, ranging from metal to deep house: Thanks to his mixing skills and his keen ear, he can marry various styles effortlessly.

I have been following JFDiscord for quite some time. Our music scene in the valley has had its ups and downs, yet he has been a mainstay. We DJs can sometimes get stuck inside certain genres—but Jeremy has no boundaries and can play almost anything. If you have not had the pleasure of seeing him live, make sure you give him a follow on SoundCloud (soundcloud.com/jfdiscord) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/JFDiscord1) so you can catch one of his gigs. You won’t regret it.

Check out his Independent-exclusive mix below!

I am excited to bring you the second entry in my summer Poolside Vibes series!

These Poolside Vibes mixes are meant to offer a backdrop for the events of your summer. It’s no secret that the pool is the place to be once the hot weather hits us. Last month, I introduced you to my brand of pool-themed sounds to help you both heat up and cool off.

Vol. 2 continues that trend and takes you deeper into the sounds of summer. Enjoy this mix, and share it with those you love.

Catch me this month at The Hood Bar and Pizza on June 5 for locals night; at Schmidy’s Tavern on June 21 for The Beer Goddess’ 6-Pack Anniversary Party (more on that elsewhere in the issue); and at Francesca’s Summer Music Festival at The Gardens on El Paseo on June 27!

Poolside is the best place to be over the next few months, so I thought I would debut some of my new track selections. I have been immersing myself in more chilled-out, deeper dance music, with elements that can take the listener to distant places. This month, I have provided a perfect audio backdrop to your summer festivities. Chill out with this FRESH Sessions mix at your next pool party or tanning session, and enjoy the hot cuts and deep grooves.

I will be playing at the Coachella Valley Brewery, 30640 Gunther St.m in Thousand Palms, on Saturday, May 3, at the Beer and Bruises fundraiser for the Coachella Valley Derby Girls! The event goes from 5 to 9 p.m. and includes all kinds of fun stuff. Come have a beer, and support some local awesomeness! Follow me at www.facebook.com/ansofficial for more gig info.

Our big April Music Issue will start hitting newsstands next week—and to celebrate, we're releasing April's Coachella-themed FRESH Sessions mix a bit early!

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival has been around since 1999, and has grown—massively—ever since. This year’s lineup features a diverse collection of performers from all over the world. To celebrate the festival, for this month’s FRESH Sessions, I've compiled a set of tracks that includes some music by up-and-coming artists at the festival, as well as songs by some more well-known acts.

I like Coachella because it showcases a wide variety of performers and genres. Everything from indie rock to trance is represented under various tents, all with an atmosphere that is electric. While the festival has lost a bit of its local element, unfortunately, it still seems to carry a strong sense of culture and creativity.

As for my appearances in April: Watch my Facebook page (www.facebook.com/ansofficial) for an updated list of gigs—but make sure you don’t miss the Pre-Coachella Warehouse Party, at Coachella Valley Brewing Co. (30640 Gunther St., Thousand Palms), starting at 3 p.m., Saturday, April 5. Tickets are $35, and that includes four CV Brewing Co. beers, lots of music, live art and tons more. Get your tickets now at brownpapertickets.com!

In the meantime, here’s the April FRESH Sessions. Enjoy—and watch out for a surprise!
